The best way I can let you know about this blog/newsletter/substack is by defining it. But of course, all things creative and forming are almost impossible to define, especially by the person doing the creating and forming. Instead, here is “The Geek Chronicles” as defined by Oxford Languages:
Geek (n.)
a person who is knowledgeable about and obsessively interested in a particular subject, especially one that is technical or of specialist or niche interest
Chronicle (n.)
a fictitious or factual work describing a series of events
So here in The Geek Chronicles you will likely find both fictitious and factual pieces about my particular interests which include, but are not limited to: humans, our culture(s) and histories, the things we do, and the series of events that make up our lives.
As for me, the writer?
I’m an American expat that’s been living in France and I’m a book, word, and culture geek. I get through this thing called life by writing and documenting my humble human experience.
Why substack, why now?
I’m starting this really for all selfish reasons a few of which I will explain here. I want a place to share my writing—get it out of the confines of the notebook(s) piled onto the corner of my desk. I want something to keep me accountable—make me “finish” the dozens of drafts I have scattered on various devices and slips of paper. And, perhaps most importantly, I want (or hope to) connect to other writers and readers and geeks and maybe just maybe we can kind of geek about things together.
